Coach and Minibus Hire in the United Kingdom

Birmingham Airport coach transfers via Comet Road

Birmingham Airport gives coaches their own road to the terminal front. Comet Road is for immediate drop-off and collection only, so the coach waits elsewhere and comes in when the group is ready.

Comet Road Coach Access

Comet Road runs across the terminal front, a minute's walk from the doors. Only coaches may use it: no waiting, and no cars, motorcycles or minibuses. Camera-operated barriers control entry, and each visit is charged, either pre-booked online or paid as a one-off.

That makes the loading window short. Have the group gathered and counted before the coach pulls in.

Where the coach sits meanwhile

The airport's own coach park is a surface car park, a three-minute walk from the terminal. It is pay on arrival and cannot be booked. Red routes on the airport roads ban stopping, so the coach cannot pause on the approach instead.

Where the driver meets you

  • Comet Road Coach Access, at the front of the terminal about a minute's walk away, is an immediate drop-off and collection road strictly for coaches: no waiting is allowed, and cars, motorcycles and minibuses may not use it. Access is controlled by camera-operated barriers and is charged per visit, pre-booked online or paid as a one-off charge.

Where coaches wait

  • The airport's on-site coach park is a surface car park about three minutes' walk from the terminal (postcode B26 3QJ); it is pay on arrival and cannot be booked in advance.

Drive to the city centre

  • about 15 miles by road to Victoria Square via the M42, M6 and A38(M); the more direct A45 route is shorter but usually slower, about 25 min in light traffic; longer at peak times

Minibus and car pick-ups

A minibus cannot use Comet Road. Smaller vehicles use the Premium Set Down, about a minute's walk, or the Drop Off car park, reached by covered walkway in 5 to 10 minutes and free for the first 10 minutes. You cannot return to the Drop Off car park within an hour.

Exhibition groups at the NEC

The airport sits beside the NEC and Birmingham International station. Exhibitors and delegates may only need a short hop from terminal to hall or to an NEC hotel. On the airport side it is still a coach booking with the Comet Road rules.

Groups coming down from the north can use the M6toll, a quick route to the NEC and the airport. It has toll plazas where the driver pays by contactless card or uses an account lane.

The drive into Birmingham

The motorway route to Victoria Square (M42, then M6, then A38(M)) is about 15 miles and takes some 25 minutes off-peak. The A45 is more direct on the map but usually slower.

The city centre inside the A4540 Middleway ring road is a Class D Clean Air Zone, every day and all day. The standard is Euro VI for a coach, while minibuses need Euro 6 on diesel or Euro 4 on petrol. Anything below it pays a daily charge. Drop-off points include Dudley Street for the Bullring, Inge Street for the Hippodrome and Royal Mail Street for the Mailbox.
