Birmingham Coach Hire with a Driver
In Birmingham the first question is whether the coach will go inside the Middleway ring road. If it does, it must meet the Clean Air Zone standard or someone pays the daily charge.
Inside the ring road
The zone covers everything inside the A4540 Middleway, though not the ring road itself. It operates every hour of every day. It is Class D, so it applies to coaches, minibuses and cars alike.
Coaches must be Euro VI. For a minibus the bar is Euro 6 (diesel) or Euro 4 (petrol). A vehicle below the standard can still enter, but the charge must be paid on GOV.UK, from 6 days before the trip until 23:59 on the sixth day after. Settle who pays it when you book.

Match the venue to its drop point
The city lists a coach set-down point for each major venue. A theatre party for the Hippodrome gets off on Inge Street; a shopping trip to the markets uses Dudley Street. Give the operator the venue name, not just the postcode.
For a coach that has to park, Brewery Street, about two miles from M6 junctions 6 and 7, has 32 bays with no height limit and facilities for drivers. Every space is booked in advance.

Coach rules in Birmingham
- Birmingham Airport (BHX), beside the NEC, is about 15 miles by road from the city centre via the M42, M6 and A38(M), about 25 min in light traffic; the more direct A45 is shorter but usually slower.
- Birmingham's Clean Air Zone is the area inside the A4540 Middleway ring road (the Middleway itself is not in the zone) and operates 24 hours a day, every day. It is a Class D zone, so buses, coaches, minibuses, taxis, vans, HGVs and cars that do not meet the standard pay a daily charge.
- In a Clean Air Zone buses and coaches must meet Euro VI, and minibuses Euro 6 (diesel) or Euro 4 (petrol); the charge is paid on GOV.UK from 6 days before the journey until 23:59 on the sixth day after it.
- City-centre coach drop-off and collection points: Dudley Street (Bull Ring Markets), Suffolk Street Queensway southbound (Alexandra Theatre), Sheepcote Street (Crescent Theatre), Inge Street (Birmingham Hippodrome) and Royal Mail Street (the Mailbox).
- Brewery Street Coach Parking (B6 4JB), about two miles from M6 junctions 6 and 7, has 32 spaces with no height restriction, CCTV with controlled access, driver kitchenette, toilets and showers; spaces must be booked in advance.
- The M6toll, the tolled route around the north and east of Birmingham, has toll plazas with barriers: pay by contactless card as you pass through, or drive through dedicated lanes with an account. It is a quick route to the NEC and Birmingham Airport from the north.
The NEC, the airport and the M6toll
The NEC and Birmingham Airport sit side by side in Solihull. From Victoria Square the airport is about 15 miles by the motorway route (A38(M), M6, then M42), roughly 25 minutes when the roads are clear. The A45 looks shorter but is usually slower.
Groups arriving from the north can take the M6toll straight to the NEC. Its plazas have barriers and take contactless payment. Ask for the toll to be included in the quote so there is no argument later.
At the airport, Comet Road is for coaches only: an immediate set-down or collection, no waiting. Minibuses cannot use it.
Short runs, long days on site
The Black Country Living Museum is about 25 minutes away. Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick Castle both lie within 45 minutes. They suit school and society groups: a short drive and a full day on site.
Questions
Does the Clean Air Zone cover minibuses?
Yes. Birmingham's zone is Class D, so minibuses are included: Euro 6 for diesel, Euro 4 for petrol.
Can the coach wait on Comet Road while the flight lands?
No. Comet Road allows no waiting. A coach that arrives early uses the airport's surface coach park instead. It is paid on arrival, and the terminal is roughly three minutes away on foot.
Is the NEC inside the Clean Air Zone?
No. The NEC is in Solihull, well outside the Middleway, so a trip straight from the motorway to the halls does not enter the zone.
