Coach transfers at Manchester Airport, Terminals 2 and 3
Manchester is now a two-terminal airport: Terminal 1 has closed, and coaches use different stops at Terminals 2 and 3. There is no published coach waiting area, and that shapes how the pick-up is timed.
Terminal 2: Palma Avenue
At Terminal 2, coaches drop off and pick up at the yellow bus stops on Palma Avenue. They must not enter the controlled, barriered lanes. Bus stop H is no longer used for coach pick-ups, so if an old itinerary says stop H or Terminal 1, correct it before it goes to parents or members.

Terminal 3: stop C and a permit
At Terminal 3, coaches use bus stop C. It is reached through a controlled lane, and the permit for that lane is bought through the airport's AIRDAT online system. Stop C holds at most two large vehicles, so timing matters when the airport is busy.
Tell us the terminal as well as the flight when you ask for a quote. The two terminals work differently for a coach.
Where the driver meets you
- At Terminal 2, coaches drop off and pick up at the yellow bus stops on Palma Avenue and must not enter the controlled, barriered lanes (bus stop H is no longer used for coach pick-ups). At Terminal 3, coaches use bus stop C, which takes at most two large vehicles, reached through a controlled lane that needs a permit bought through the airport's AIRDAT online system.
Where coaches wait
- Manchester Airport's coach page publishes no coach layover area; picking up passengers on the airport road system is prohibited and enforced under a Traffic Regulation Order.
Drive to the city centre
- about 9 miles by road to Albert Square, about 20 min in light traffic; longer at peak times
No layover area: time the arrival
The airport's coach page lists no layover area, and picking up passengers anywhere else on the airport road system is prohibited under a Traffic Regulation Order. A coach cannot pull in and wait on the roadside. The usual answer: the operator tracks the flight, the leader calls the driver once the group is through, and the coach comes in to load.
Minibuses and cars
Minibuses of up to 16 seats pick up from the over-height parking at Terminals 2 and 3, not the coach stops. Cars use the barrierless drop-off zones, paid online by midnight the following day. Free drop-off exists too, a shuttle ride away.
Into Manchester, or on to Liverpool
The run to Albert Square is about 9 miles, some 20 minutes when roads are quiet. Nothing is charged for emissions on the way in: Greater Manchester chose a clean air plan without a charging zone.
In the centre, short-stay coach bays on streets such as Liverpool Road and Lower Mosley Street allow 20 minutes; medium-stay stands allow 4 hours. Send the exact hotel or venue so the driver can plan the nearest bay. A group bound for Liverpool can land here too: that city is about 35 miles away, about 50 minutes' drive.
Questions
Where does the coach pick us up at Terminal 2?
At the yellow bus stops on Palma Avenue. Coaches may not enter the barriered lanes, and stop H is no longer used for coach pick-ups.
Can the coach wait at the airport while the flight is delayed?
The airport publishes no coach layover area and bans pick-ups on its roads, so the operator times the arrival to the flight instead.
Is there still a Terminal 1?
No. As of March 2026 Manchester Airport runs Terminals 2 and 3 only.
