Inverness Airport coach transfers for Highland tours
Inverness Airport has a restricted-access coach lane right at the terminal front. For many groups it is the start of a Highland tour, so the pick-up is only the first of the day's timings.
The coach lane at the terminal
Coaches park in the restricted lane for under two hours, paying a per-coach charge in advance through the airport information desk or on site. A minibus is not allowed in the lane; it parks in a normal car park and pays the standard rate.
For a quick drop, one short-stay car park has a free 15-minute area, five minutes on foot from the doors.

Dalcross to the city
The airport is about nine miles north-east of Inverness, off the A96 via Inverness Airport Way. Allow about 20 minutes for the 9 miles to Inverness Castle. There is a railway station too, 11 minutes from Inverness on the Aberdeen line, but it sits a 20-minute walk from the terminal.

Drivers' hours on a Highland day
Private hire coaches and minibuses above 8 passenger seats follow the assimilated (formerly EU) drivers' hours rules: a daily driving cap of 9 hours (10 on two days a week), and, after 4.5 hours of driving, a 45-minute break or longer.
Skye and back is roughly 220 miles: around 5.5 hours of pure driving, stops not included. Add a flight arrival in the morning and the day can run out. Very long itineraries may need a second driver or an overnight stop; tell us the full plan so the quote reflects it.
Stops that suit a coach
Urquhart Castle reserves coach parking for trade partners, booked through a Historic Environment Scotland trade account; admission tickets alone do not secure a space. Off the A87, Skye's roads are largely single-track with passing places, and the Fairy Pools road and car park are unsuitable for large coaches. Eilean Donan has coach spaces at its visitor centre, and the Skye Bridge is toll-free.
Back in Inverness
Seasonal coach set-down bays on Ardross Street, near the cathedral, operate from April to the end of October; check the signs for hours. Torvean Park & Ride has five coach bays. Culloden Battlefield is about 6 miles east.
Questions
Can a minibus use the coach lane at Inverness Airport?
No. A minibus parks in one of the ordinary car parks and pays like anyone else.
Can we fly in and do Skye the same day?
It is a long day. Skye and back means roughly 220 miles on the road, and drivers' hours limits apply. An overnight stop is often the better plan.
Do we need to book parking at Urquhart Castle?
Coach spaces are for trade partners booked in advance; without one, entry for the coach cannot be counted on.
