Coach and Minibus Hire in the United Kingdom

Liverpool John Lennon Airport coach transfers and terminal bays

At Liverpool John Lennon the coach bays are on the terminal front, and pre-booking is what lifts the barrier. A vehicle that arrives unbooked is stopped and escorted to a pay station.

Pre-booking the coach bays

Coaches, limousines and large minibuses (over 16 seats) load and unload at the terminal-front coach bays. The driver takes the Coaches/Fast Track route; cameras read the plate and lift the barrier if the booking exists. Pre-booking costs less than paying on the day.

Each stay is 30 minutes at most, so the group should be ready to board when the coach arrives.

There is no coach waiting area

The airport publishes no separate place for coaches to wait. The coach arrives to load, not to sit. The operator times the arrival from the flight, and the leader calls the driver when the last bag is off the belt.

Cameras read the registration, so the booking has to match the vehicle that turns up. If the operator swaps coaches, they update the booking.

Where the driver meets you

  • Coaches, limousines and large minibuses of more than 16 seats use the coach bays on the terminal front for drop-off and pick-up, staying no more than 30 minutes. Drivers follow the Coaches/Fast Track signs, and number-plate recognition raises the barrier for a pre-booked vehicle.

Where coaches wait

  • The airport publishes no separate coach waiting area. Vehicles that turn up without pre-booking are met at the terminal front by the landside operations team and escorted to a pay station; pre-booking costs less than paying on the day.

Drive to the city centre

  • about 8-9 miles by road to Lime Street station, about 25 min in light traffic; longer at peak times

Smaller minibuses

Under 16 seats and under 2.15 m tall? That minibus goes to Express Drop-off and Pick-up, the car park facing the terminal, and pays at the exit. A taller minibus is given space in Long Stay, at the back of the multi-storey.

Roadworks and the road into town

Lime Street station is about 8 to 9 miles by road, roughly 25 minutes in light traffic. The eastbound exit slip road at junction 6 of the M62 is closed, with a diversion via junction 7, and is due to stay shut until spring 2027; check before travel. Liverpool has no charging Clean Air Zone.

The city coach map marks 15-minute bays on Crosshall Street and William Brown Street; Gower Street, beside the Royal Albert Dock, has 10-minute ones. Check the street signs before using them. For the Wirral, full-size coaches use the Kingsway tunnel; the Queensway tunnel is limited to 3.5 tonnes.

Stragglers and national coaches

Scheduled national coach services do not call at the airport; they use Liverpool ONE bus station, from which an airport express bus runs. That is a fallback for one traveller who misses the group coach.

Questions

Do we need to pre-book the coach bay?

It is strongly advised. Booked vehicles pass the barrier automatically; unbooked ones are escorted to a pay station and pay more.

How long can the coach stay at the terminal?

No more than 30 minutes.

Can a coach use the Queensway tunnel to the Wirral?

No. Queensway is limited to 3.5 tonnes, so full-size coaches use the Kingsway tunnel.
