Coach and Minibus Hire in the United Kingdom

Edinburgh Airport coach transfers from the coach park

At Edinburgh Airport the coach does not come to the terminal door. It loads in the coach park, as does any minibus with 8 or more seats, and the group walks out to meet it.

The walk to the coach

The coach park lies south of the multi-storey car park. Passengers cross between it and the terminal at the crossing point by stand 10. Brief the group before they land, especially a school party or older travellers with heavy cases.

The coach park is charged by length of stay. The airport publishes no time limit for coaches, so agree with the operator how long the driver will wait if the flight runs late.

Eight seats is the line

A minibus of 8 seats or more also uses the coach park. Cars go to the ground floor of the multi-storey, where the zone has barriers and takes cards only. Free drop-off and pick-up is in the Long Stay car park for up to 30 minutes, with a 10-minute walk and no shuttle.

Where the driver meets you

  • Coaches, and minibuses of 8 seats or more, drop off and pick up in the coach park; passengers walk to and from the terminal using the crossing point at stand 10.

Where coaches wait

  • The coach park is to the south of the multi-storey car park and is charged by length of stay.

Drive to the city centre

  • about 8 miles by road to Waverley Bridge, about 25 min in light traffic; longer at peak times

Edinburgh's Low Emission Zone

Its area is 1.2 square miles, in force at all hours, all year. Coaches must meet Euro VI; diesel cars and vans Euro 6, petrol Euro 4. A non-compliant vehicle gets a penalty charge, so ask for a compliant coach. The boundary roads are outside the zone, which lets a driver route round it.

Hotels, the castle and the Royal Mile

Waverley Bridge is about 8 miles by road, around 25 minutes when traffic is light. Large coaches cannot use Johnston Terrace to reach the castle. Groups set down on Castle Terrace, free for up to 30 minutes at signed hours.

Away from Castle Terrace, a two-minute stop on yellow lines is all a coach gets, and no stop where there is a loading ban. That rules out a leisurely unload outside many Old Town hotels. Edinburgh's council is still drawing up its coach plan, so confirm the current arrangements before each trip.

Ingliston, Glasgow and the Fringe

The Royal Highland Centre and the airport hotels are at Ingliston, right beside the terminal. Show groups may barely leave the airport area. If flights suit better, Glasgow Airport is an option, roughly 45 miles and an hour from Edinburgh. In August, when the Festival Fringe runs (6 to 30 August in 2027), request coaches early.

Questions

Does the coach meet us outside arrivals?

No. Coaches and minibuses of 8 seats or more pick up in the coach park; the group walks there via the crossing at stand 10.

Is there a time limit in the coach park?

The airport publishes none. It charges by length of stay, so agree waiting time with the operator.

Can our coach drive into the Low Emission Zone?

Yes, if it meets Euro VI. A non-compliant vehicle is issued a penalty charge, so ask for a compliant one.
