Bath Coach Hire: Clean Air Zone, Bays and Parking
Bath is compact and very busy with coaches in summer. The historic centre has a charging Clean Air Zone and a handful of short coach bays, and anything longer than 90 minutes means parking at Odd Down.
The zone standard
Bath's Class C zone charges coaches, minibuses and taxis that fall below the standard. For a coach that means Euro VI; for a minibus, Euro 6 diesel or Euro 4 petrol. Cars are never charged. Ask for the vehicle's standard in writing when you book, because the bays the group needs are in the centre.

Short stops in town
Terrace Walk and North Parade are closest to the Roman Baths and the Abbey, but each allows only ten minutes. That is enough to unload, not enough to wait for a late party. For collection, Royal Avenue by the Royal Crescent gives 20 minutes, and James Street West 30.
Pulteney Road has a short-stay bay of up to 90 minutes, useful for a quick visit. Whatever the bay, the engine goes off when parked. Summer traffic in the centre is heavy, so build slack into arrival and pick-up times.

Coach rules in Bath
- Bristol Airport (BRS) is about 20 miles west of Bath, about 45 min by road; Heathrow is about 105 miles (about 2 h) via the M4.
- Bath has a Class C Clean Air Zone, in force since 15 March 2021 across the historic centre. Buses, coaches, minibuses, taxis, private hire vehicles, vans and HGVs are charged unless they meet the standard (Euro VI for buses and coaches; Euro 6 diesel or Euro 4 petrol for minibuses); private cars and motorbikes are never charged.
- On-street coach bays (all drop-off and pick-up only unless shown): Terrace Walk (BA1 1LN, 10 min, two coaches), North Parade (BA2 4AL, 10 min, two coaches), James Street West (BA1 2DA, 30 min, one coach) and Royal Avenue (BA1 2NR, 20 min, three coaches), all 24 hours; Pulteney Road (BA2 4EZ) has a 20-minute drop-off bay and a 90-minute short-stay bay, 08:00-19:00.
- Coaches staying longer than 90 minutes should park at Odd Down coach park (Odd Down Park & Ride, BA2 8PD): 29 spaces, open 24 hours all year except during the Bath Christmas Market, with toilets, water, coach toilet waste disposal and Park & Ride buses into the city for drivers.
- Switch the engine off when parked. City-centre coach traffic is very heavy in summer, so plan arrival and pick-up times carefully.
- During the Christmas Market (26 November to 13 December 2026) coach operators must book drop-off and pick-up slots in advance, and every coach uses Royal Avenue, about a 5-minute walk from the market; bookings open in August each year.
Odd Down for a longer stay
For anything over 90 minutes the coach goes to the Odd Down Park & Ride. It has 29 spaces, toilets and water. The driver can ride the Park & Ride bus into town, which helps when the group wants to meet somewhere other than a bay.
The Christmas Market
Each year the market fills the weeks from late November to mid-December, and the coach rules change. Operators have to reserve set-down and collection slots ahead of time. All coaches are sent to Royal Avenue, roughly a five-minute walk from the market, and Odd Down is shut to coaches. Slots are released in August, so leaving it late can mean poor times.
Airports and day trips
Bristol Airport is about 20 miles, around 45 minutes. Coaches over 16 seats must book a slot in the airport's Bus & Coach Park in advance and stay no more than 30 minutes. Heathrow is about two hours by the M4. Lacock, Castle Combe and Wells are all within 45 minutes, Stonehenge about an hour.
Questions
Can the coach wait near the Roman Baths?
Only briefly. The nearby bays allow ten minutes. For a longer visit the driver takes the coach to Odd Down and comes back for you.
Is Odd Down open during the Christmas Market?
No. It closes to coaches for the market, when every coach uses a booked slot at Royal Avenue instead.
Which airport suits a group staying in Bath?
Bristol is the nearest, about 45 minutes. Heathrow is about two hours and makes sense for long-haul flights.
