Coach and Minibus Hire in the United Kingdom

Coach Hire at Greenock Ocean Terminal

Greenock, down the Clyde, handles Glasgow's cruise calls; by road the city is about 24 miles away. Coach work here is a mix of embarkation transfers and tours for passengers ashore for the day.

Getting there

The run from Glasgow Airport is about 14 miles, or 25 to 30 minutes. Groups board there in Zone C, the open-air coach area of the multi-storey pick-up building. It has no height limit, so minibuses use it too. A coach that is early gets half an hour free in Long Stay.

From Glasgow city centre the drive is about 24 miles and takes 35 to 45 minutes. Trains from Glasgow Central take 35 to 40 minutes, which suits a few people with small bags but not a group with luggage.

Glasgow's Low Emission Zone

Collecting from a hotel in central Glasgow puts the coach inside the Low Emission Zone. Diesel coaches must meet Euro VI. There is no fee to enter: a non-compliant vehicle is sent a penalty charge notice. Book a compliant coach and it never comes up. The M8 is outside the zone.

Getting from the ship to the coach

  • Greenock town centre is about a 3-minute walk from the terminal.
  • ScotRail trains run from Greenock Central to Glasgow Central in about 35-40 minutes.
  • Taxis wait outside the terminal.
  • Glasgow city centre is about 24 miles by road (about 35-45 min).
  • Winter 2025-26 upgrades widened guest walkways, improved passenger flow routes and sped up baggage handling.

A day ashore

The town centre is about a 3-minute walk from the terminal, and taxis wait outside. For a group, a coach tour is the usual way to see more. Glasgow is under an hour away, so a half day in the city is realistic. Further trips mean more time on the road and less at the stops.

Set the return time from the ship's all-aboard time, with a margin. A coach running late back to the pier is the one delay the plan cannot absorb.

Questions

What if the flight into Glasgow is late?

Send the flight number when you book. The first half hour of waiting in Long Stay costs nothing; for anything longer, the operator will say how the wait is handled.

Which vehicle for a small group?

Up to 16 passengers, a minibus is enough, and it uses Zone C at the airport like a coach. Larger groups need a midi or full-size coach, chosen by headcount and luggage together.

Can we visit Edinburgh from the ship?

It is a long day. Edinburgh is about 47 miles beyond Glasgow, and its Low Emission Zone asks the same Euro VI standard of coaches.
