Coaches for the Liverpool Cruise Terminal

Ships at Liverpool tie up to a floating landing stage on the Mersey at Princes Parade, a short walk from the main sights. The distances are short. The timing at the door is what needs care.

Come in your slot

Coaches set down and collect outside the main terminal building, and security staff control access. The lines want each group at the building at its embarkation time, not before, and want collections timed to the disembarkation slot it was given. A coach that turns up an hour early adds to the congestion they are trying to avoid.

The port suggests arriving 2 to 3 hours before the ship sails. If that and your line's embarkation slot disagree, ask the line; the coach time follows the answer.

Airport runs

Liverpool John Lennon is about 9 miles off, around 30 minutes. Anything over 16 seats uses the coach bays in front of the terminal, with a 30-minute limit. Book the bay in advance: turning up unbooked costs more.

From Manchester Airport it is about 36 miles, so budget close to an hour. Coaches load at the yellow stops on Palma Avenue for Terminal 2, or at bus stop C for Terminal 3, which needs a permit bought in advance. Manchester names no coach waiting area, so the coach should arrive close to the time the group comes out.

Getting from the ship to the coach

  • The terminal is in Liverpool city centre; many attractions are within a 5-15 minute walk.
  • Passengers can be picked up or dropped off outside the main terminal building, where security staff control access.
  • Cruise lines ask groups to arrive only at their designated embarkation time and to arrange pick-up only for their disembarkation time, to avoid congestion.
  • The port recommends arriving 2 to 3 hours before the ship's scheduled departure.
  • Liverpool Lime Street station is about a 20-minute walk or a 10-minute taxi ride away.
  • The port says the terminal is fully accessible, with assistance for passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility.
  • A new terminal able to berth two 300 m ships and up to 7,000 passengers a day is planned; in September 2026 an application was made to demolish a disused Victorian jetty beside the current terminal to make way for it.

Merseyside road rules

Liverpool runs no charging Clean Air Zone. For a trip to the Wirral, a full-size coach cannot use the Queensway tunnel because of its 3.5-tonne limit. It takes the Kingsway tunnel and pays at the barrier.

For city sightseeing, the council coach map marks short-stay bays on Crosshall Street, William Brown Street and Gower Street by the Royal Albert Dock. The map is old, so the driver goes by the signs on the street.

Questions

Is the terminal accessible?

According to the port, yes, and assistance is on hand for anyone who needs it. If anyone uses a wheelchair, say so when you book so the operator can supply a suitable vehicle.

Could the group walk from Lime Street station?

Walking takes about 20 minutes; a taxi about 10. Pulling cruise cases that far is hard work, so most groups are better met at the station by the coach.

Do we need the coach for a night in the city first?

Often not. Many attractions are a 5 to 15 minute walk from the terminal, so a waterfront hotel may only need the coach for the airport leg. For a day out, Chester is about 25 miles away.
